Outdoor pool renovation

The aging Weende Freibad in Göttingen was to be completely renovated and additional pools and functions were to be added. In addition, there is an extended non-swimmer area including a beach and small play islands, along with a paddling pool and a sand/mud corner as attractions for the young ones. Likewise, the existing bath buildings were to be designed as functional buildings.
The water purification in Weende is operated in a biological manner with the help of sprinkled and swamped ground filters, which are integrated into the open space design of the park.

Open-space design

The objective of the open space design is to transform the open spaces of the outdoor pool into a park that can be used all year round. The outdoor pool remains open for the public even after the bathing season as an attractive open space for a variety of leisure activities. This is currently the first outdoor pool in Germany with such a multi-functional concept.
Securing the water areas beyond the bathing area was a key part of the planning tasks. The interaction of the outdoor pool area and parking area was focused upon.

Polyplan designed the outdoor pool area and open spaces of the park in 2016.
The outdoor pool was supposed to be built by a general contractor starting in 2017.
