Artificial intelligence for shrimp?
The work presented here is one of 11 so-called “application experiments” (AE) embedded in a consortium of more than 30 partners in the EU project DIH4CPS (digital innovation hubs for cyber-physical systems). Our AE titled “Smart Aquaculture” is about digital innovations in an indoor shrimp farm in Germany (www.dielandgarnele.de ). Indoor aquaculture is a growing sector of food production but still in a young stage of development, to be enhanced by using the opportunities of digital technologies.
Water disinfection by Ozone, advantagews over UV irradiation in a brackish water RAS for L.vannamei
By keeping tropical shrimp, like Litopenaeus vannamei , in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), valuable food for human consumption can be produced sustainably. L.vannamei tolerates low salinities, and therefore, the systems can operate under brackish water conditions.
Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool in Edmonton
The Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool is Canada's first chemical-free outdoor public pool. The city of Edmonton in the state of Alberta was looking for an environmentally friendly solution for the implementation of the bathroom renovation and opted for physical-biological water treatment.
Screening level risk assessment NSP
Natural swimming ponds (NSPs) are artificially created bodies of water intended for human recreation, characterized by the substitution of chemical disinfection with natural biological processes for water purification. NSPs are growing in popularity, however little is known regarding the public health risks.
Effect of Peracetic Acid on Microbial Community of RAS for L.vannamei
When tropical shrimp are kept in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), one of the limiting factors is the maintenance of a sufficient water quality, and therefore, often disinfectants like peracetic acid (PAA) are added to the water either as prophylactic or treatment measure.
Hygienic situation in public natural swimming pools
Natural swimming pools (NSP) have become more popular in the past 20 years, both for private and public use, but their hygienic status remains a matter of discussion. Elimination rates in NSP are well defined for Escherichia coli , enterococci and Pseudomonas but a lack of knowledge exists regarding elimination rates in NSP concerning the parasitic protozoans Giardia and Cryptosporidium .
Database for outdoor pools with biological water treatment
The natural pools database (DANA) was developed as part of a research project funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) (AZ 25480-23).
Bathing pond system according to FLL in addition to the classic pool according to DIN
The new Stadionbad Bremen shows a new way through the combination of a pool according to DIN and a bathing pond. The challenge for the planners lay in adhering to the tight financial framework while at the same time meeting the high demands of an open public participation process.
Hygienic aspects and experiences with natural adventure pools
Bathing primarily serves health benefits and relaxation. In English, the word “rec-reationa! water" this one content included. It also means to refresh, refresh, entertain and relax. This is much more comprehensive than, for example only the "sterile" German word "Badewasser".
Aeration of large water basins
In various areas of the food industry, washing and process water is temporarily stored in large storage tanks and then applied to the fields by sprinkler systems with a time lag. Odor nuisance from such a 20-hectare waste water tank was the reason for the development of the rotary aerator.
