Lake Ballandur has a surface area of 450 ha. The lake is a hypertrophic shallow lake that could also be described as a sewage lagoon. It is located centrally in the metropolis of Banglore, India and is extremely influenced by approximately 180,000 m³ of wastewater from the city and another 180,000 m³ of wastewater flowing in through the treatment plants.

Following the baseline assessment in 2011, Polyplan team worked with their partners, Bio Fermenta and ASA Spezialenzyme, to develop a remediation concept, which was presented in 2012. The remediation consisted of a biotechnical combination of precipitant addition in the inlet stream, floating islands in the inlet delta in combination with root zone aeration and an and on-site bacterial culture production.
