Brine natural bath Bad Gandersheim

Character & History

As the main component of the state horticultural show of the city of Bad Gandersheim in 2023, the former blue brine chlorine pool was once again completely renovated and transformed into a green oasis. The outdoor pool is located near the medieval town center, not far from the collegiate church and the market square. The surrounding green spaces and the water playground are an important part of the inner-city recreation.

At the foot of the forest slope in the mouth of the Ganges, the site has a strong slope that characterizes the open space. The direct proximity and flanking of the two rivers Gande and Eterna, unites the bath with the natural course of the river.

Construction phase & origin

For the new natural pool, most of the existing pools were upgraded and supplemented with new pool walls. Since the outdoor pool is not directly in the flood zone, but the adjacent areas are regularly flooded, the new water level was raised to the height of the diving pool by about 50cm to be safe in the future. The existing diving tower was replaced by a modern diving facility.

Healing powers & special techniques

Large parts of the bath’s filling water requirements were drawn from the nearby Wil-helms spring even after renovation. The spring measures an average salinity of 9.7% and is said to have healing properties due to its high sodium and chloride content.

In 2023, the pool was awarded 1st place by the IOB in Category D “Public (Municipal) Pools with Biological Water Treatment”.
