The outdoor pool in Bassum was converted from a chlorinated pool to a natural pool for the first time in 2006. Since then, it has been operated as a natural pool with two filter systems, a wet filter and a Neptune filter. The Bath was thoroughly and actively used, however, it needed improvements simultaneously on many different levels.

The city council of Bassum had repeatedly expressed a wish to integrate the pool with a heating system. After various calculations and considerations of the climatic effects, we decided to use the district heating of AWG, which is close to the natural pool, as the only justifiable solution for generating warmer pool water. The district heat supplies the nearby hospital in the winter and can be released to the natural pool as surplus in the summer.

With the necessary reconstruction for the production of the heat circuits, further renovation measures were realised, such as the replacement of the defective foil in the non-swimmer pool, the upgradation of the water playground and the removal of the gravel areas from the pools. In addition, the sand and pavement areas were renewed. A new footbridge made of recycled plastic runs through the centre of the renovated pool, under which, the surge tank has been integrated.
