The natural swimming pool in the Swiss municipality of Riehen on the border with Germany has been one of the biggest attractions in the region since it opened in 2014, according to its own advertising.
The pool consists of a spacious paddling pool with water games, a non-swimmers’ pool with beach area and slide, as well as a swimmers’ pool and a separate diving pool. The design for the filter systems was based on a daily capacity of 2,000 visitors. The soft water due to the natural treatment of the biological filters provides an all-round pleasant bathing experience. The concept was designed by the renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron and has already won several awards because of the special wooden construction of the surrounding terraces and buildings connected to the natural pool. The concept for the water treatment was defined together with the Wasserwerkstatt Bamberg and supervised on site.
